A few years ago I was on a remote airport parking shuttle bus with two Accounting colleagues headed out on a one week trip to Europe. One of them stared me straight in the eye and stated, "your job really sucks if this is what you have to do every month." I could not have disagreed more...but didn't let him know that.
I recently attended a two-day global distributor meeting and heard someone say they would prefer to be a Sales Manager than a Salesperson. This statement surprised me. Field salespeople have the best jobs in most companies-lots of autonomy and the opportunity to optimize their earnings. What role qualities did they want to demonstrate for their sales team as a Manager? Then I remembered the qualities my first Sales Manager exhibited:

Partners are easier to build on paper than in practice. We all have the scars and smiles to prove it! One of the common business buzz words in common usage nowadays is "partner."
I had an interesting Skype call with a former distributor colleague last month. My foreign friend told me during the discussion a manufacturer relationship had changed. It was no longer a partnership-it was a buy-sell relationship. There was no passion, there were no feelings. The new relationship was-"we place orders-they ship."
My experience is that business relationships like this never thrive-they subsist. What is the probable loss of a partnership?
The greatest loss will be the camaraderie that it took so long to build. What is a good partner? I really don’t know, ask your partner, they will tell you.
