Building a Business Development Culture

I was inspired at a younger age by a great mentor that was the best business development person and entrepreneur I ever met.  He was a voracious reader and preached his strategic vision to suppliers, customers and anyone else that would listen.  Mike wanted everyone inside and outside his business organization to spot opportunities and pass them though the funnel to “make them happen.”

How did Mike create a client centric organization that followed through?
  1. Mike lived our business and our strategy and infused it in those around him.  We showed authentic passion inside and outside.  Everyone that entered our building felt it.  We wanted to improve our customer’s customer business.
  2. Everyone inside knew our business plans.  They knew the type of opportunities we wanted to seize.  We knew our quarry.  We talked about the why and the what we wanted incessantly.
  3. Everyone knew the important and the urgent business topics.  We got hot leads to the right actors to quickly execute.  CRM and newer technology makes it easier if used properly and proactively.
  4. We shared the wealth in everything we did.  We needed everyone on the team or else we would not have hired them.
